Why can't some people can't dance?
For a small portion of people, this lack of rhythm has a name: beat deafness. A study from McGill University found that three percent of people suffer from congenital amusia (…which might become my drag name), and that means they can't perceive music through either pitch, timing, or rhythm.
The process of rhythm co-ordination doesn't come naturally to some people. Although rare, this does affect a very small percentage of the population and is a real disorder known as “beat deafness”.

Maybe you look awkward when you dance because your body isn't matching the tempo of the music. Simply aligning the rhythm of your movements to the beat will make your dancing look a lot more put together. Or, your vibe isn't matching the vibe of the song, making your dancing look off.
As long as you are polite, respectful and encouraging everything will be fine. Remember that it is important to get out there and ask for dances as well as accept and decline. The dancers that dance the most, improve the quickest and have the most fun so get out there!
